Young Males for sale as Pets
Our pet boys are usually higher priced than some others seen for sale, but we are always prepared to negotiate. Discounts apply for more than one, and they're much cheaper if sold with a female.
Also check out exclusive alpaca halters available through Jill Palethorpe - on www.alpacacraftplus.com (see below).
Yes, we know there are cheaper pet boys on TradeMe or offered free with the purchase of females by some breeders. We believe the boys should be priced alongside other pedigree pets (as in cats/dogs), not compared to stock prices. However, below are some reasons why we maintain our current higher prices and are not apologising for doing so:-
**You get registered, pedigree alpacas whose lineage is documented (whether you think it's important or not, we do). Most pedigree dogs (and even cats) are over $1,000 to buy whether registered or not, yet are sold as pets, so why should young male alpacas be really de-valued and "sold for a song"? After all, you can get an annual fleece return which you don't get from dogs/cats (even though we love them)!!
**You get the animal's full health histories; their injections up to date, toenails trimmed, and they invariably come halter-trained and you can be assured of an honest evaluation regarding their fleece worth.
**You get full follow-up service and mentoring for as long as it takes until you are confident that you can handle everything necessary to keep your alpacas healthy, and can enjoy them relaxing around you. Our animals' health and welfare is paramount to us, so we will check out your property to ensure it's safe for the boys to live in and offer advice on any topic you need to know, if you're willing. Also advice on castration - when, who, how, where is given and assistance "on the day" if required. Many of our sold boys come back for shearing or we assist in getting a shearer to come to you.
We know of too many instances where alpaca pets have been bought cheaply off various websites and have arrived at their new home without any idea of their ages (sometimes), whether they've been innoculated, had their A,D & E or been drenched (or even castrated). What potential clostridial "nasties" could they be bringing onto your land? There is usually no follow-up service offered and we often get phoned to help new owners who have been given no handling/care instructions or when they find one of their boys dead in a field. Many are not halter-trained and just run off to the far end of the paddock, never venturing close - not really a good investment as a pet then, are they?
If you want to pre-book one (or a pair) of our boys - come round and see the Mum's who have cria-at-foot and potentially pre-book one of the young males. (This has already happened this year with Maverick being sold pre-weaning). Choose his/their own names if you want. Then you can monitor his/their progress, halter-train him/them and relax, knowing you've got good quality young boy(s) who you're already well acquainted with coming to live with you after weaning.
